Fractional leadership

Operational and delivery leadership support for growing agencies and teams who need senior leadership without the full-time hire.
Fractional leadership

Get experienced operational leadership without making a full-time hire

As agencies grow, delivery becomes more complex. Teams need support. Decisions take longer. Processes that once worked start showing their cracks.

At some point, agency owners find themselves carrying too much of the business on their own.

I partner with agencies as a fractional operations and delivery leader, helping teams work better together, strengthening delivery practices, and creating the conditions for sustainable growth.

You don't have to carry it all yourself

One of the things I've noticed about agency owners is that the better they are at their jobs, the more likely they are to become involved in everything.

They care about the work. They care about their people. They care about their clients. When problems arise, they step in to help. When someone needs guidance, they make time for the conversation. When a client relationship gets complicated, they get involved.

Those are all qualities that help build successful businesses. They're also the same qualities that can make it difficult to step away from the day-to-day operations of the agency.

Over time, responsibilities accumulate. Decisions start flowing through a smaller group of people. Teams become increasingly reliant on a handful of leaders for direction and support. The business continues to grow, but the demands on leadership grow right alongside it.

I've seen this happen in agencies of all sizes. It's rarely the result of poor leadership or a lack of trust in the team. More often, it's a sign that the business has reached a point where it needs additional support, structure, and operational leadership to keep moving forward.

That's where fractional leadership can make a meaningful difference.

What fractional leadership looks like

As a fractional leader, I become part of your team.

Unlike consulting, where I work alongside your organization on specific initiatives, fractional leadership places me inside the business, partnering directly with leadership and supporting the people responsible for delivering the work.

That might include:

  • Leading delivery and operational initiatives
  • Leading departmental projects, meetings, and activities
  • Supporting Leadership team projects, meetings, and activities
  • Supporting project and account management teams
  • Coaching managers and emerging leaders
  • Improving communication and decision-making
  • Clarifying roles and responsibilities
  • Facilitating planning and prioritization
  • Helping teams navigate growth and change
  • Creating healthier delivery practices
  • Recruiting, interviewing, and hiring my replacement

Every engagement is different because every agency is different.

The goal is meet you where you are, provide the leadership and support your team needs right now, and help you grow into your next stage.

Why agencies bring me in

I've spent almost two decades helping agencies navigate growth, change, and the messy reality of client service.

I've led projects, built PMOs, coached leaders, supported account teams, and worked alongside agency owners trying to balance great work, happy clients, and healthy margins.

After a while, you start to recognize the patterns. The challenges may look different on the surface, but they often come back to the same things: expectations, communication, decision-making, and how work moves through an organization.

My job is to help uncover those patterns, identify what's getting in the way, and help teams build healthier, more effective ways of working.

Not a framework. Not a playbook. Just practical solutions that work in the real world.

What changes

Every engagement is different, but the outcomes tend to be remarkably similar.

Leaders gain space to focus on strategy. Teams have more support. Communication improves. Decisions become easier to make. Expectations are clearer. Delivery becomes more predictable.

Account and project teams work together more effectively. Managers grow into stronger leaders. Clients benefit from a more consistent experience.

Most importantly, the organization becomes less dependent on a single person carrying all the weight.

I partnered with an agency leadership team that had experienced significant growth. The business was healthy, the team was talented, and client demand was strong, but operational complexity was growing faster than the systems supporting it.

Over time, leaders had accumulated responsibilities that made it difficult to focus on strategic priorities. Delivery practices varied across teams, project management capabilities were inconsistent, and expectations weren't always aligned.

Working as an embedded leadership partner, I helped create delivery standards, coach project managers, improve communication practices, support operational planning, and strengthen accountability across the organization.

The result wasn't simply better project management.

The result was a healthier, more sustainable way of working that better supported both the team and the business.

Is fractional leadership right for you?

Fractional leadership is often a good fit when:

  • Growth is creating operational challenges
  • Teams need stronger support and direction
  • Delivery issues are consuming leadership attention
  • You need experienced leadership but aren't ready for a full-time hire
  • You're navigating significant organizational change
  • You want to strengthen operations without adding unnecessary complexity

If that sounds familiar, I'd love to learn more about your team.
