Learning to be a passenger

Learning to be a passenger

I'm on vacation! By the time you read this, I'll be somewhere between Oslo, Bergen, and Stockholm, having already made my way through Copenhagen.

Truthfully, I was lobbying for a beach vacation. But when my parents gave my daughter Juliet the chance to choose anywhere in the world to visit, she picked Scandinavia. So here we are.

So far, the trip is top-notch. I couldn't ask for more. And the best part? I didn't plan any of it.

I spend most of my days making decisions. Between consulting, my work with Image Conscious Studios, writing the second edition of Project Management for Humans, and organizing two conferences, there's always something to figure out. I like being busy. I like building things.

But I didn't want another project. I wanted a vacation. So for two weeks, I'm just a passenger. I get to follow along, experience what everyone else planned, and enjoy seeing the world through my daughters' eyes.

Honestly, how lucky am I? My family put this together. Juliet chose the destination. I get to spend two weeks making memories with the people I love while seeing parts of the world I've never experienced before.

I spend enough time creating experiences for other people. There's something kind of magical about getting to simply enjoy one.

TL;DR: I spend plenty of time creating experiences for other people. This summer, I'm grateful to simply enjoy one. Also, this is the newsletter for this week. I thought I'd have more time to write, but the family had other plans. It works for me.
