Ending the year energized

Ending the year energized

This year was tough.

Professionally and personally, some moments felt uncertain, exhausting, and honestly a little disorienting. The kind of year where you’re doing a lot of work just to stay upright, let alone feel inspired. I don’t think I expected it to be quite as challenging as it was, especially after having worked independently for so long.

And yet, somehow, this same year brought me back to the work in a way I didn’t see coming.

I found myself writing again, thinking more deeply about project management, and reconnecting with the human side of the work in a way that feels exciting and honest. The conversations I’ve been having with peers, clients, and first-time discoverers of my work have been energizing. They’ve reminded me that project management isn’t just about process and delivery. It’s about people, relationships, communication, and care. And right now, that feels more relevant than ever.

Out of a pretty chaotic year came real momentum.

I’m heading into the new year working on the second edition of Project Management for Humans, going deeper into the ideas that have always mattered most to me. Greg and I are also preparing to launch the PM Squad, a new, human-centered project management content & training project I’m genuinely excited about. None of this feels like a pivot. It feels like a return, with more clarity and confidence than I’ve had in a long time.

What’s surprised me most is how reinvigorated I feel by the work itself and by the people around it. There’s something compelling about realizing that the thing you care most about is still meaningful, still useful, and still fun. I hope more people continue to see that the human side of project management isn’t soft or secondary; it’s essential.

So I’m ending the year in a good place. Grateful, clear-headed, and excited.

I’ll be ringing in the new year in Brooklyn at a Robyn show, dancing my ass off and enjoying the moment. I’ve also put together a playlist of the songs that carried me through this year—the ones that kept me moving, thinking, and looking ahead.

The year was wild. But it brought me exactly here. And that feels like a really good place to start what’s next. Happy New Year!
